For Independently/Self-Published Authors

For SELF-PUBLISHED/INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED Authors:

Congratulations on your book and thank you for reaching out to us!

We are always grateful when authors consider independent bookstores as partners.  We do not, however, stock self-published/independently published books unless the author has a prior established relationship with us.  This is not due to any sense of exclusivity but for very practical reasons:  We have limited shelf space, it is difficult to track books sold on commission, and it is difficult to get sales traction on these books.

If you haven't already, we suggest you become a part of your local bookstore community -- get to know the booksellers, shop there, and then suggest to friends, family and fans that they buy your book from that independent bookstore.  When stores see requests, they often will stock.  If you do not have a local store nearby, first, we are sorry!  And, second, you could ask a friend or family member if they have a good relationship with their local bookstore and if they'd be willing to reach out on your behalf.

If/when we do decide to stock your book and purchase directly from you,  we do a 60/40 split on sales, BOOKSTORE/AUTHOR.  It is up to the author to publicize that your book is here at the Penguin Bookshop.

If your book is available at INGRAM, you may direct friends to our website to order your book from us.  We then ship it directly to them from Ingram, but the sale is recorded at Penguin Bookshop.

The best way to earn the support of a local bookstore is to become a loyal customer!  Shop with us, get to know us!  The bookstore/author relationship is a partnership. Thank you for understanding.

Please note the following restrictions, which are in place to protect both the author and the store:

WE DO NOT ACCEPT UNSOLICITED BOOKS OR MARKETING MATERIALS

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BOOKS LEFT WITH US OR MAILED TO US WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION

WE DO NOT ACCEPT COLD CALLS TO DISCUSS YOUR BOOK OR PROJECT
