LAUNCH PARTY! Zoje Stage BABY TEETH

Event date:
Tuesday, July 17, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

We are pleased to be hosting Zoje Stage's launch event, for her debut BABY TEETH (On-sale 7.17.18). It is dark, and wholly original, and promises to be one of the summer's most talked about (and divisive!) psychological thrillers.

In it, Zoje explores the unraveling relationship between stay-at-home mom Suzette, and her mute, "bad seed" young daughter Hanna. Hanna is a girl who intentionally cuts her mom's hair, barks at her teachers, feeds a schoolmate paint, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Despite all of this, I couldn't help but have a soft spot for Hanna (perhaps not the novel's villain, but its misunderstood heroine), and thought Suzette (a physically and emotionally vulnerable woman ambiguous about motherhood) not entirely undeserving of Hanna's wrath.

It's seen quite a bit of pre-pub buzz, with an excerpt on EW.com, a Shelf Awareness Book Trailer of the Day, and a Goodreads Hottest Thrillers of 2018 mention

Publishers Weekly, starred review"Stage expertly crafts this creepy, can't-put-it-down thriller into a fearless exploration of parenting and marriage that finds the cracks in unconditional love."

Kirkus Reviews, starred review: "This tightly plotted, expertly choreographed tale unfolds in alternating chapters from the perspectives of Hanna and Suzette. Author Stage palpably conveys Suzette's fear, anger, frustration, and desperation while exploring the deleterious effects that motherhood can have on one's marriage and self worth. Stage fuses horror with domestic suspense to paint an unflinching portrait of childhood psychopathy and maternal regret."*

Library Journal, starred review: "Deliciously creepy...The author keeps the suspense taut by alternating chapters between Hanna and Suzette, offering a terrifying glimpse into the inner thoughts of a budding sociopath."
