SUPREME COURT BRIEF
This appearance by Justice Breyer is the first time that an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court has appeared at The Drue Heinz Lectures. In his new book, Through the Eyes of a Judge, Justice Breyer presents, for the first time, an original and accessible theory of the United States’ Supreme Court's responsibility and integrity. He presents arguments that refute the strict constructionism advocated by the court's conservatives. Justice Breyer, one of the few Democrats on the bench, argues that the Court must act responsibly to safeguard the trust of the American people, using historic cases like Bush vs Gore as powerful examples of where the Court has erred in overriding the actions of popularly elected leaders.
