WIZARD OF WICKED
An entertaining and
thought-provoking speaker, Gregory Maguire is best known for rewriting
fairy tales to highlight their intriguing moral questions. His
best-seller, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the
West, turned the story of The Wizard of Oz inside out and is
the origin of the Tony Award-winning musical. Maguire is also a national
figure in children’s literature education and has written more than a
dozen books for children. His lectures feature the voices of his
characters and appeal to all ages.

 Harton Semple: History of the Sewickley Valley Found in Sewickley Cemetery

From
its beginning in May of 1859, Sewickley Cemetery has been a source of
community pride. We are happy to welcome Harton Semple, writer and
photographer of the Sewickley Cemetery's ultimate guidebook. Mr. Semple
will be signing copies of the book which retails for $10.00.

The Zen and Mindfulness Book Club
Monday, April 12th at 7:00PM
The
first meeting of the Zen and Mindfulness Bookclub will be held at
Penguin Bookshop on April 12th at 7:00  This book club will focus on
how we can be fully present and engaged in key areas of our life such
as work, family, and health. We will be reading some of the best recent
books that address these questions from the perspective of Zen practice
and mindfulness. The club is open to the public. Discussion will be
facilitated by members of the Zen Center of Pittsburgh.  The first book
is ZBA: How Zen Practice Can Transform Your Work and Your Life by Mark
Lesser.

Rachael Carson Film Fest

7:00 pm  Tuesday, April 20 Patricia DeMarco, PhD, Executive Director of the Rachael
Carson Homestead Association, will introduce the film on Tuesday, April
20th. 
She will also share information about the Rachel Carson Homestead and
their
many programs.

native Pittsburgher, Rachel Carson by showing the film A Sense of Wonder. This film depicts pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson (Silent Spring, 1962) in the final year of her life and was made at Carson’s cottage on the Maine coast.

Bookshop welcomes Amy Nichols from CMU and the Quaker Valley Middle
School Students with whom she is collaborating. Voices is a collaborative
photography project.

Sewickley Unleashed
Saturday, April 24th 10 am - 3 pm

Join
the Penguin Bookshop and the village of Sewickley in supporting Animal
Friends during Sewickley Unleashed. You'll find the Penguin Bookshop at
our booth on Broad Street and around the village reading stories. Be
sure to stop in at the store at 11 am . We are hosting Best books for Babies Story Time with Beginning with Books. At 2pm Doug Oster, author of Tomatoes Garlic Basil and Post-Gazette columnist, will be at the store for a signing and sampling.Read More...
